The Straying Sheep

Okay....So I finally I got around to writing another poem.
I'd love your feedback, so just tear it up, edit, analyze, revise, correct, and...I'm running out of verbs. The long and the short of it is, I'd love to hear what your thought are on the poem, or any changes you might make! There are a couple parts where it's off rhythm, but hey, I'm not Edgar Guest :) It's sorta long, there's a lot more I could have said on this subject :) I divided it into two parts...The Downfall, and Jesus' Call. Anyway, 'nuff said... enjoy!

"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6...And there are a lot more references that I could put to this...I tried to tie them into the poem.

The Downfall
Broken limbs that have no use
This fallen soul can’t stand abuse
Lukewarm love that’s lost its fire
A striving heart with the wrong desire

Wanting to fit in with them
And hide from those who would condemn
Like a child, "You could do it"
Said your independent spirit

But still you needed a father’s guide
To protect you from your foolish pride
Now your salt has lost its savor
Now your life has no more flavor

It started with that second look
Followed by that step you took
You slowly put on worldly form
Sin on sin, you did conform

Though wisdom called aloud to you
You would not follow with the few
Though I said I’d see you through
The greatest hurt the world could do

Polluted truths and veiled lies
Led you to this compromise
Convincing you the bread was sweet
That you had taken in deceit

Their words enticed you to come in
Promising no rod for sin
“There’s no judgment for the wicked”
“Have your fill of sin”, they said

Like creeping lions to their prey
They led you down the wicked’s way
You followed like a blinded sheep
Knowing not their path was steep

But they were wise to your weakness
And God’s truth they did suppress
Your heart deceived you to give in
Let down your guard, and yield to sin

Then their arrow struck your soul
All you’d striven for, every goal
Melted in the heat of hell
Where for ever you would dwell

The world will keep you for their use
Then give you up to sin’s abuse
Could you not have persevered?
Could you not have born their sneers?

If you’d waited but to see
I was a God of grace and mercy
And if, child, you only knew
The depths of love I had for you

I would have loved you as my own
My blood, your greatest sin atone
But through your sin, your first love was lost
But do you know, child, at what cost

And You Thought They Focused?

What happens when a group of college boys get together to study, or in this case, work on a project? Did you really think that they stayed focused all of those hours, solving non-linear partial differential equations, analyzing non-Newtonian fluid systems and researching the Leidenfrost Effect? I have proof that this is not the case!

When It's All Been Said and Done

Within the last six months, four people that my family knows have passed away, three of which have been to cancer. Along with the news that our pastor also has cancer, and has not been able to preach since then. I know God is in control, but it's easy to lose sight of even some of those most basic truths when so many people around you are hurting. The other day, I was listening to a song, "When It's All Been Said and Done" by Robin Mark, and it helped to remind me that the only thing that really matters in the end is what we've done for Christ. All the sufferings and trials of this world are passing. It is easy to get caught up in goals we need to make, tasks that need accomplishing, or different things we are going through, that will all pass away when we stand before the King of King. His glory is our ultimate goal.

When It's All Been Said and Done ~ Not Quite Sure Who Wrote It

When it's all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for truth
Did I live my life for You
When it's all been said and done
All my treasures will mean nothing
Only what I've done for love's reward
Will stand the test of time

Lord Your mercy is so great
That You look beyond our weakness
And find purest gold in miry clay
Making sinners into saints

I will always sing Your praise
Here on earth and ever after
For You've shown me Heaven's my
True home

When it's all been said and done
You're my life when life is gone
Lord I'll live my life for You.

Knowing You Jesus ~ BY Graham Kendrick
All I once held dear, built my life upon,
All this world revers and wars to own,
All I once thought gain I have counted loss,
Spent and worthless now compared to this.

Chorus: Knowing you, Jesus, knowing you
There is no greater thing.
You're my all, you're the best,
You're my joy, my righteousness
And I love you Lord.

Now my heart's desire is to know you more,
To be found in you and known as yours,
To possess by faith what I could earn
All surpassing gift of righteousness

Oh to kn0w the power of your risen life,
And to know you in your sufferings
To become like you in your death, my Lord,
So with you to live and never die

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21

"...For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:32-34

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
